You obviously don’t know about bwana at http://www.bwana.tv and Michael C. Hurdle at http://www.themhshow.com they’re both black tech geeks. Michael C. Hurdle has his own personal technology show and he’s a PC and a Mac geek. And he knows his stuff when it comes to computers, gadgets, etc.

Pretty soon he’s going to tell us he’s not a racist and that he has a lot of black friends…

By zxspectrum on Aug 3, 2007
Dont listen to the ‘haterz’ that shit was hilarious. Nice work.
By David J on Aug 3, 2007
I’m not trying to create tension. Loren pissed me off. Touched a nerve. You know? Of course watermelon jokes will get that tension going every time as well. Why not get on meanguy?
Fuck you and your tension. I think Loren is responsible for whatever tension is present.
By goo goo on Aug 3, 2007
O.k. I’m done
By goo goo on Aug 3, 2007

By Vince Williams on Aug 3, 2007
It’s sad that you had to portray yourself so ignorantly just to make a point that you are a racist.
Whats even sadder is the fact that Scoble allowed this and passed a mere gentle comment.
I hope that by Monday morning this whole post will be gone and you will at least apologize to those that you have offended.
By Darla Mack on Aug 3, 2007
Oh and by the way… I AM a black tech blogger.
By Darla Mack on Aug 3, 2007
wow. very wrong and very funny. Another good black tech guy is Johnnie Tech from the One in The Hand video blog.
By David Jacobs on Aug 3, 2007
Loren. Always the provocateur.
To address a previous post:
That’s exactly right, Feldman can’t (or shouldn’t) because he is super pale white.
Talented, but super pale white.
By ChrisD on Aug 4, 2007
A bit depressing to still hear people associate race with culture.
By JeffMinter on Aug 4, 2007
rofl… Loren is NOT a racist. I think he raises a valid point though: why are computer geeks not valued by black culture? And I’m sorry, did someone just say there was no such thing as black culture? Why do black people have their own television station (BET) then? Why are there shows with just black people on them? Can you imagine if somebody said (in 2007) no, we can’t have any black people on this show, it’s just for white folks? People would shit. Maybe rightly so.
As for Loren “having lots of black friends”, he’s had more black people on this show (and that whole Katrina thing!) than I’ve seen on any other webcast. You people are talking out your ass.
By jvon on Aug 4, 2007
Ok, will everyone stop emailing and skyping THIS BLACK TECH BLOGGER, and asking me what I think about Loren in general, and this video in particular?
Loren and I are friendly, and until we met a few months back, he probably didn’t know that I was Black or ‘a girl’, and he’s only familiar with my personal blog over at ReallyGoodFriend.com, but I am also an Associate Editor and Contributing Writer (print and online) over at Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine (PPCmag.com).
For the record, I like still Loren, but I also think the video is sorta stupid, although it has a few funny moments. Am I all offended? Not really. Why not? Well, it’s clearly satire.
From the way people are going on about ‘black face’, I thought he got out the shoe polish (which would have been too much), but clearly he didn’t. Is the video in bad taste? Yeah, and probably we shouldn’t be laughing at it, but…
By Tari Akpodiete on Aug 4, 2007
It might be “sorta stupid”, but that doesn’t really make it different than any other video on here, does it? And those are clearly not racist.
I think why some people are upset about this is that Loren goofs on black people, and he’s white. Every black comedian who talks about race at all makes fun of white people. How many routines have you seen about how white people can’t dance, how we wear stupid clothes, how we listen to horrible music, etc. Is that racist too? If not, why?
What we’ve got here are a bunch of people taking themselves WAY too seriously. And before anyone asks, no, I don’t have any black friends. They all think I dress funny and listen to horrible music.
By jvon on Aug 4, 2007
Oh and Loren does hit that pipe like he’s had some practice.
By jvon on Aug 4, 2007
Well, it’ll get you a big audience, which was the only reason to do it. I thought it was kind of lame, unfunny, unhelpful and so basically a bit shitty.
By Rupert on Aug 4, 2007
Loren, I watch your videos on a regular basis. Well, I used to watch them. I wont be coming back any more.
Why you chose to make this I dont know. Possibly it was to try and start something? To try and get more views? Who knows?
This was in bad taste. It wasnt funny. It wasnt thought provoking and certainly not inspiring. It was childly YouTubish at best. I hope you change your tone in the future.
By david on Aug 4, 2007
This is assholery at it finest.
Hey! Congratulations, Loren! 48 comments and counting! You must feel fantastic!
You’ve reduced yourself to this unfunny, racist idiocy? I’ll reduce myself to petty name-calling.
You asshole.
By missb on Aug 4, 2007
jvon.
What does having black people on his show have to do with offending people with this video or his perceived racism?
If yo think you know something because you saw black people being interviewed, maybe it is you who is talking out his ass.
By drjamaica on Aug 4, 2007
Again, why is o.k. for Loren to flip out because of the innocent comment Guy K. made,
[Antisemitism! Cried Loren. Fuck you! He said.]
but it’s not o.k. for people to condemn Loren for this premeditated act the he knew would really offend people.
Loren’s actions are understandable. With his intelligence, he has no choice but to go this direction. Does he?
Get ready for more.
By drjamaica on Aug 4, 2007
Ah, I’m glad you brought this up. For one thing, nobody has ever rounded up black people into camps and killed millions of them because they ate fried chicken and watermelon; they DID however do that to Jews because they had taken over the German economy. (Yes, I realize that one is an ignorant stereotype, so is the other, and it’s what Guy K. casually — and probably innocently — threw into a conversation.)
He also, as far as I know, wasn’t trying to be funny. Loren’s bit was clearly satire. If you don’t think it’s funny, that’s fine. That doesn’t make him a racist.
Personally I thought the whole Katrina thing was blown completely out of proportion and it never would have been the kind of news story it was if black people hadn’t been involved. Do you think it is helpful to black people to constantly portray them as victims? It was a hurricane. It wasn’t exactly an unexpected event, was it? They happen every year. If a thousand rednecks died in a hurricane, how long would the New York Times be talking about it?
So yes, I do think that deciding that he had to go down there and talk to people about New Orleans does indicate some kind of genuine concern for (or interest in) black people; I myself would not have bothered. But instead of giving him credit for that, you’re jumping all over him because he poked fun at the image of black people that’s glorified by MTV. (And plenty of black people seem to think it’s great; Bill Cosby’s comments on the subject are dead-on.)
By jvon on Aug 4, 2007
This was really in bad taste. The preface of this sophomoric piece was “black” tech bloggers, not “rap” tech bloggers or “gangbanging” tech bloggers. It really did come across as racist to me, or at the very least bigotted.
By Gregg on Aug 4, 2007
Well when we have black people saying that Condoleeza Rice isn’t really black, and Obama isn’t “black enough”, you can see how us stupid white people would get confused.
By jvon on Aug 4, 2007
Right on Jvon- I just finished reading the Sat Interview in the Wall St Journal re: Cory Booker (current Mayor of Newark - a ridiculously difficult job)… he too was called ‘not-black-enough’. Seems to me the only racism here and elsewhere is being propogated by a certain slice of the black community.
By Mr Bell on Aug 4, 2007
@jvon… but here’s the thing… not ALL black people are saying that! So once you start grouping all black people together in whatever negativity takes place in the world… you are in fact stereotyping which then becomes a form a racism.
And actually, black people were grouped together and killed. OUR camps were called ships. These ships left from Africa to the US. The ones that weren’t strong enough to pull weight were tossed off the ships and fed to the sharks for the sake of amusement. Women and children were beaten and raped. Once in the US families were separated and sold to plantations. And even after that we were still raped, beaten, sodomized, hung, set fire too and tortured… for the sake of amusement.
We might not have been tortured for the same reasons and or beliefs as the Jews but we were still tortured. While not all black history has made it into the history books, there are still the stories of our ancestors.
By Darla Mack on Aug 4, 2007
Don’t worry jvon, I avenged our losses by secretly killing hundreds of thousands of those worthless Asian rats.
I have to admit I like the white looking blacks better myself.
By H. Kissinger on Aug 4, 2007
Hey slavery was awful, no doubt about it. There’s a reason we fought a war to end it, and nobody’s suggesting bringing it back.
Unfortunately Jew killing is still a popular idea in some parts of the world.
And Henry, you goof, give me a call, we should catch up.
By jvon on Aug 4, 2007
@jvon
Are you *really* playing the Holocaust card to defend a piece of sub-Carlos Mencina hack comedy?
Seriously?
If I were Jewish I might consider that a little inappropriate, cheapening and gratuitous.
But I’m not, so I just find it hysterically funny.
Do you bring up the Holocaust every time you get a parking ticket?
You might want to save it for special occasions in future, and there’s nothing special about this video.
By Loren Luther King on Aug 4, 2007
The Holocaust thing came up in the context of why casual anti-Semitism is bad. I didn’t bring that up.
And I wasn’t defending the piece. I think it’s in poor taste. I also thought it was hilarious in spots, you may draw your own conclusions on what that says about me. But that doesn’t change the fact that all you hyperventilating people are completely ridiculous. Loren isn’t a racist. He makes fun of everybody. He’s an equal opportunity asshole.
By jvon on Aug 4, 2007
Wow this is pretty clueless and offensive to black people and to women. On so many levels.
Why would any black bloggers want to talk to you, dude? Given that you think this is funny?
Oh and btw,
Don’t miss the “Should I do blackface on my blog” flowchart.

By Liz Henry on Aug 5, 2007
Offensive to black people and women??
According to what I see coming from the most powerful arbiter of black culture - HipHop and Rap musicians - black females are “bitches and ho’s” and men are “niggers”, oh sorry, “niggaz”. Who’s perpetuating the stereotypes? Who’s offensive? Not Loren - he’s goofing on their idiocy.
By Mr Bell on Aug 5, 2007
just genius
“dey be twitter’n” had to be my favorite part
By sean percival on Aug 5, 2007
I would ask how much harm is done by this video, compared to the harm visited on black women, gays, and black youth by the example of the new ‘minstrels’ who show us a phony, self-centered, money-worshiping lifestyle that embraces violence.
By Vince Williams on Aug 5, 2007
Wow! Um, I didn’t know that there were informed people out there who *didn’t* know that there are black tech bloggers on the net. Many out there, but here are two of my favorites: Darla Mack is all about mobile tech and Newsweek’s N’Gai Croal (Level Up) is all about gaming & tech.
By funkybrownchick on Aug 5, 2007
Wow.
I always knew you were a douchebag but this is a new low of douchebaggery. Racist? check. Unfunny? check. Totally unoriginal? check. See niggaknow.com for the first people to run with this lousy idea.
And for anyone thanking Loren for critiquing the scourge that is “black culture”, you should know that when Loren created an online talent agency last year the very first act signed to it was a hyphy rap group.

Number 1: your accent sucks
Number 2: how stupid to impersonate a financial and morale class of people and lump them all into one race. sheer ignorance.
Number 3: there are tons of black bloggers but - HELLO - you can’t see the color of their skin because - HELLO - you are looking at a computer screen, not the person, which furthers the point that there is not a difference when you put your color blinders on. can you do that?

The only thing worse than the fact that your racist mockery - yes you are a racist, regardless of how you’ll undoubtedly try to rationalize your bullshit - was made in the first place is that you actually have other clowns lining up to tell you how funny you are. 400 years later… the same old shit. I could turn on MTV right now and see a more insulting portrayal of black people. Produced by black people, performed by black people, and sold to black people.
I don’t think the Jews are your problem. (Certainly not this particular one.)
By jvon on Aug 9, 2007
y’all motherfuckers need to chill, its not racist. fuck you if you can’t take a joke, lighten up (lol).
but feldman, question for ya…why do you always look like you’ve smoked twenty when you record your material man?
By james on Aug 9, 2007
Any reasonable individual with a modicum of critical thinking skills should know how to differentiate between the gangsta rappers you see on MTV and black people in the IT industry. How silly would this post seem if it was about “white tech bloggers” and it referenced living in a trailer park, taking meth and having a penchant for cheating on your spouse? Or if it was about East Asians tech bloggers and referenced working at 7-11 and driving cabs.
The only thing funny about the video was how much of a fool Loren Feldman character was making for himself in a desperate attempt to gain popularity through controversy. Good luck, it’s worked for less talented hacks.
By Dare Obasanjo on Aug 10, 2007
That video was probably the least funny , most bullshit I’ve seen in a long time. You just made a total jerk of yourself! Man, you can be sooo lucky that you are on the other side of the altantic. Else, I’d allready be at your door step and beating shit out of you, you poor racist turd!
By behold pale horse! on Aug 10, 2007
“Any reasonable individual with a modicum of critical thinking skills should know how to differentiate between the gangsta rappers you see on MTV and black people in the IT industry.”
I think you have accidentally stumbled upon the reason that I find it amusing. The video, I mean, not everyone’s response to it, which is more interesting than amusing.
By jvon on Aug 10, 2007
FYI, I work in the IT industry, and the black people I’ve dealt with professionally were more or less indistinguishable from white people, aside from the color of their skin. Loren’s bit is making fun of people who take great pride in “acting black”. Could have just as easily been done about Scottish people, though we’d have fewer people posting and it would be harder to understand them.
In fact, here… do you find THIS offensive? (And why not?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcPgsMqPQpI
By jvon on Aug 10, 2007
Damn B, why gotta disrespect white people like that? Portraying them in such a stereotypical fashion? I got white cousins man, not all of them are racist morons so out of touch with black culture they lampoon styles that were big ‘97. I mean, it’s like you weren’t even trying. Let me guess, you would have rocked the shiny suit, but only thought of it right before you started shooting?
Also: Your rocking a choker… Your wearing one of the earings my grandma wears to church…
