Some advice for you as a puppetier:

When you’re using the puppet, instead if bringing his head up, bring his mouth down. What you are doing what we call ‘flipping the lid’. Humans mouths move up and down while the head stays straight. This could be difficult without much practice, but I’m sure you’ll get it eventually. One thing you may find that helps is to cross your index and middle fingers. This may help to keep your fingers from moving up and down, and allow your thumb to do the mouthing action instead.
