I think podcasting still could have some appeal, if someone had something so interesting/informative to say that I wanted to transfer it to my ipod or burn it to a CD and listen to it in the car while I drive somewhere.
The problem though, is that so far, no one has anything that interesting to say.
I love video because there’s more of a human connection. With a podcast, you still can’t see the person talking. It combines the worst aspects of video and text communication. I never did care for it. It’s clunky and awkward.
The killer app for podcasts is obvious. Comedy. Comedy mixed with music. Music by itself. Perhaps micro radio theatre, as in my Odeo podcast train wrecks like “Hair from Hell” and “Age Reversal Ray”.
Podcasts are good for what we prefer in audio.
We prefer most things in video, with very few exceptions.
Podcasts burned to a CD is what I like, and it’s comedy, Resonance FM, the Hellebore Shew in particular, though Harmon e. Phraysier is good also. Don’t like Martin Suicide at all.
Podcasts often have long intros, each person says who they are: that sucks. No real info you can use, just narcissistic hype.
Podcasts are a mostly failed communication format. Except for working out at gym, listening on iPod while jogging or raking leaves.
Inspiration is better in audio, you don’t want to stare at one lone son of a gun for an hour, who just stands or jumps around, getting the audience pumped up psychologically, to improve their office skills and sales closings.
