I like Gabe Rivera, always have. He’s weird as shit and has an awesome dry sense of humor. I woke up to Gabe doing his best to look normal in the picture in The NY Times which wrote an article about him and his site Techmeme. I felt happy for him. Why? Because the NY Times matters. It matters more than any blog, and all the blogs know it. I mean lets face it would you rather be in the NY Times or Techcrunch? For such a webcentric world why is this the case? I’ll tell you why, because Newspapers matter. Newspapers are real, they matter, and they always will. Blogs don’t matter. I’ve met or know every top blogger in the world. I’ve been on every top tech blog possible. Umm great. BFD. Why? Because while it’s flattering it means nothing. In terms of spreading an idea, I’d much rather be in the newspaper or on TV than the web. There are no bots, Chatroulette, or articles about which phone someone is using. I mean if you care what phone Louis Gray is using you should to quote Jason Calacanis “Kill yourself”. The history of the NY Times matters, there is no history on the web. The striving for excellence and integrity, two words that mean nothing on the web. Gawker, Techcrunch etc. these sites mean nothing to culture. They are car accidents we slow down to see for a minute as we search for new porn. This is the reason every blogger wets their panties every time they are mentioned in a newspaper, they know the truth. Despite all these tech fools rooting for their demise, they still cut the clipping out and send it to mom. Try telling your Mom you were on techcrunch. I already know the answer. “What’s techcrunch”. Now try it with the NY Times.
I rest my case. Congrats Gabe.
