Fuck the two of you, that ending was perfect. Of course you want a spoon fed ending. But all that indicates to me as with most of the Sopranos audience is that they didnt understand the entire series since day one. Thats though for helping keep it on by watching it. Chase is a genius.
LOL I don’t know the Sopranos but boy do people seem to take this stuff seriously looking at the comments, especially #3. It’s pretty sad that a TV series is such an important part of your life that you feel the urge to go and insult people over it.
I thought it was brilliant. The previous episode ended with Tony going to bed with a rifle and not knowing what would be on the other side of the door at any given moment.
I get that he’s probably dead until the movie at least. I also get the art aspect they were going for, all that being said I still thought it was a weak cop out ending. Not for nothing, but I was never a real fan of the show. It was always so unrealistic. Don’t ask me how I know that, but trust me. The whole family would never be whacked like that.
What I liked about the ending was that the whole series started with Tony suffering from “black outs” and it ends the same way - only it’s the viewers who suffer it.
Screw the art aspect, it was a major cop-out. I’m not even pissed off, I just think it was about as dumb an ending as you could possibly have. Time to cancel HBO
I was disappointed with the last episode. I understand why it was written that way. I get it, I really do. I also can appreciate that no matter what they did, people would have been pissed off about it. Fine.
But that wasn’t an ending. It was a last episode. They were hyping it like there would be some kind of resolution, and there wasn’t.
It also would have been a lot easier to forgive if the last two years of the show hadn’t mostly been filler.
It was still a hell of a show and I’ve seen every single episode, but it definitely fizzled somewhere along the line.
David Chase can I have my hour back? What a weak finale to a great series. Memorable? Yes, for the wrong reasons. I know people are giving it artistic merit, intellectual credit and calling it a great tv moment but I have to completely disagree.
First of all, forget art - I wanted to be entertained that’s why I watch tv. Intellectual credit, I want to see an explosive end to a great series but instead it went out with a whimper - this is tv, I want to see and hear what happens, leave nothing to interpretation. Third, a great tv moment, yeah a great example of trying to be so clever it’s not.
The Sopranos took alot of twists and turn during it’s run and introduced us to the many dimensions or a fictional crime boss. The series was verging on epic i.e. The Godfather trilogy, Once Upon a Time in America or Scarface. But the series fell short with the finale giving the viewer no clear satisfaction in closure just a profoundless interpretive one.
btw, I am a television editor and from now on I plan to build empty tension with no climax and cut to black at seemingly critical moments b/c if David Chase can do it why can’t I.
At first I wasnt crazy about the ending. But after watching it again and discussing it with people, Ive heard all kinds of wild but possible theorys.
First theres the “Henry Hill” ending where the Soprano family goes into the witness protection program because of Carlo.
Then there is the “Everything went black because Tony (or the whole family) got taken out at the diner.” After all, there was no picture or sound, even during the closing credits at the end. And there were a few hints such as Tonys discussion with Bobby about “never knowing when it happens cause everything just goes black.”
And the new one I heard is that we, the viewers, were the ones that got wacked at the end. Storys over for us…No more Sopranos…
Whatever….doesnt really matter to me. Everyone has their own ideas. I guess time will tell. If there is a movie in 5 years then we will know what happened and what didnt.
And yes it is funny how seriously some people take this shit. Some of these people need to kick back and light up a big fatty.
I agree with part of what KC said. The viewer
was the one to get killed off. We never saw it coming, and it went dark and silent, just like Bobby said.
The Sopranos was the best show ever, period. A remarkable show that took TV to the next level and where any random episode was usually better than any blockbuster movie.
The final episode seemed more like the last episode of a season and not the final episode of the series. It is Chase’s style to leave us wondering what the hell will happen. He did it for seven seasons. That is why I liked it. I think their is closure for most character(Christopher, Uncle Jr, Meadow, AJ, Silvio, Dr. Melfi relationship with Tony and even Paulie)but the main one, what will happen to Tony is the one we will have to keep on wondering. I am still glad he did not go killed (at least visibly) or became a rat. That would’ve sucked.

The show ends with us not knowing, as well.

I like Michelle’s haircut.
@ “…Loren talking for an hour.”
It would depend on what he was talking about.;-)

Remember the scene on the lake with Bobby? On the old Chris Craft?
Remember what Tony said?
“You’ll never see it coming. Everything will just go black”
Tony is dead. No question. Not ambiguous at all.
By Erik Schwartz on Jun 11, 2007
Erik has it. This is how death happens for most people… everything just stops, and you never saw it coming.
I liked it.

There had to be a movie…
By Todd on Jun 11, 2007
The whole family wasn’t whacked, just Tony.
Tony’s narcissism is the theme of the whole series, his “tragic flaw”, when Tony is gone then as far as the series is concerned nothing else matters.

I think the people coming to the resturant were Feds not murderers. It was something like the last supper. Tony knew that they are coming after him.
