Well done, Loren. A great mix of people, views, ideas.
Off topic: You misspelled Chartreuse on the intro.
I like the old man blaming bureaucracy - as a whole. The woman later on not wanting to lay blame (when I sensed she really wanted to) because they’re living for today.
Some choice quotes…
“it was like a war zone”
“shit, hopefull we won’t get another hurricane”
race: ” basically bullshit, people have the same needs”
“people gotta come as one, instead of coming as a lot of different voices.”
“politicians don’t fix things, constuction workers do, people do, families do …”
Good to see the French Qtr doing fairly okay - business wise.
“New Orleans The People Speak” puts you there, post-Katrina twilight zone.
Conclusion:
New Orleans is not reproducing the past, will never be the same as it was — industry replacing ancient homes, Hispanic influx, renters not returning, lots of jobs, home scarcity and way too expensive, sado-capitalistic exploitation of suffering, enshambled people.
And “the best thing about New Orleans is the music”.
Without the metaphysical satisfaction of ethereal artform “Music”, there would be unvarnished vanishings tranmorgified into silhouettes, nocturnal terror, the revenge slayings from shadowed debris, the twisted and wrong, the facelift drift off, worn, down, confused, triumphant in decay, resilient in will, steady in vision: The Neo New Orleans 2.0
Amazing to hear people talk without Bush bashing. Was that edited out or were people really this nonpartisan about it? You’d never know it from the mainstream press, if so.
Great stuff, really gave a feel for the atmosphere down there.

“We all bleed red”
I really liked that there was no agenda on this piece, as you showed various views, some conflicting.
Thanks for giving us a glimpse.

The best social documentary I have ever seen.

Awesome work. Hope you’ll be putting all this footage together into a larger scale documentary.

Something should be done with this, something that would get the message out to a wide public.

I agree with Andrew and Vaspers… dig in Loren and try to get this into some hands that can spread it around as a doc.
I’m very impressed my friend.
