Microsoft Is Terrified Of Google

February 1, 2008 – 3:43 pm

Yes it makes sense on paper. It reeks of desperation and fear to me. Just like the facebook deal. They can’t compete and they know it, so they are doing the usual buy the competition and try to buy the market. Big difference this time. Google can spend as much. This move means nothing, boring and predictable.

  2. I agree, Micro$haft’s policy is buy something with potential, and suck it dry. Yahoo is in trouble, adding them to MS will only drag MS down. The only thing Yahoo has going for them right now is Flickr, and most of the country doesn’t realize Yahoo owns them. I only use Yahoo Mail because it was my very first email, and I haven’t had the patience to move everything getting sent there to a different account, but I’ll fast track the move if MS buys them.

  3. Yeah I hope they don’t ruin Flickr.

Maybe I’m paranoid but something’s reminding me of the turn-of-the-century tech bubble…as if the real estate bubble wasn’t enough. Jeeze.

  4. Who cares? Who cares??

Your Flickr stream, a service owned by Yahoo, might one day turn into a useless buggy ‘Windows Live Experience’.

Yahoo holds alot of important web properties that, if mismanaged (and we know about Microsoft mismanagement… *coughVISTAcough*), could easily go down the tubes.

With this merger, Microsoft could easily blow alot of good things.

I’m gonna be pissed if I need a Windows Live account to use Flickr now.

(Don’t forget all the dopey symbolic bullshit with Yahoo representing Web 2.0 and, with its decline, the bubble might be starting to pop blahblahblah)

  6. I like Flickr in that it’s easy to order real photo albums from qoop. What I don’t like about Flickr is that it limits you to three albums at a time for free accts.

  7. Maybe it is time to start using Picasa?

  8. Davind, I have some web albums on Picasa, but you can only order prints and a couple other items… not printed photo albums. They should strike a deal with qoop or a similar company.
