  4. Well, I wasn’t joking either. She needs someone to help her get real, either you or a damn good shrink (funnily enough, I once offered to hook her up with mine, then changed my mind).

    That said, I don’t think she has the ability to be truly genuine. She really doesn’t seem to see what the rest of us do in her actions and words. That’s why narcissists rarely change, because they are unable to see that it’s not the rest of the world that needs to change, but them.

  6. I agree with Jackie about narcissists. It’s ironic, though, that someone so fixated on the topic of “me” is so unaware of the actual self. It would be fantastic if you could give Julia a little insight. And if not, it would be a good media moment.

  9. I think you said it all when you referred to the age thing. Julia will probably be fine in 20 years. Maybe less, if she’s lucky.

    The fact is, it generally takes several decades for a decent, enlightened, confident, aware person to form. I know I was a self-centered narcissist at her age, I think most of us were. And if one is attractive (hot is the ubiquiteous term today) it’s all the more likely you’ll be “me-centric” because everyone will be enabling you and putting you up there.

    It’s the way our society works; we put the hot young things up on a pedestal, give them these great positions and lots of power…then we’re surprised when they turn out to be idiots. We never seem to remember that if you’ve only been on the earth 25 years you’re generally not going to have enough life experience to be wise and open and generous. That comes later, with time.

    Anyway sorry for the ultra long comment.
