Actually (since no one’s posting I will start arguing with myself), I think there is one limited area where blogging has some kind of importance: the dissemination of news that traditional media is missing. The “Rathergate” scandal, doctored AP photos, and so on — this is a totally new function of the Internet.
I view most of “blogging” as an extension of the same stuff that’s been going on since 1994 or so, people posting things that interest them on the web. It was revolutionary then, but isn’t now. The technology has evolved, but so what?
At least, as someone observed, they didn’t pick that maniac from Iran as the Man of the Year.
