Right on man, been meaning to write an entry saying just this. Another reason to own it is that Google includes domain in their search algorithm. So if someone is searching for Loren Feldman, lorenfeldman.com is more likely to come up (of course there are a million other factors as well).
dammit loren. i’m sure this was meant to be an unassuming post, and i watched it earlier this morning with that mindset. although, your topic tags screamed something bigger.
4 hours and $15/year later, johnratcliffe-lee.com was born. i’ve owned ratcliffe-lee.com from the days of concentric, windows 3.1 and dial-up AOL but not until this post did i think about owning my whole name.
now that i do, what happens next? nothing really, i suppose. i feel that if i develop another web property with the same redundant content before centralizing everything under an overarching umbrella, then i just make more work for myself.
but really, online identity management/personal branding, etc. is something i’m really interested in. the majority of my friends are the exact opposite and i’m not quite sure how to show them that this sort of stuff matters. visibility=value. i’m a huge fan of what claimID is doing and welcome ziki’s stab at bringing online identity management to the general consumer.
everyone needs more of this, and hopefully this post is a good summation of why.
