Come on Feldman.. that’s kinda like sayin don’t pop the hood on Dad’s old chevy… or even a better analogy, don’t take the side panel off your computer and customize it. I see your point about giving shit some time and seeing what Apple’s got in mind… but at the same time if it wasn’t for people hacking shit up and adding their own flavor into this life, we might all start shaving our heads, wearing white t-shirts and agreeing with each other on everything. I mean damn you live in NYC, you eat and breathe hackers who are committed to hacking that city up everyday…
The iphone is so far from doing everything, I cant even record my phone calls on it… and the only way it stands a chance at being the “holy grail device” is by rolling out the red carpet for developers and builders. Innovation would grow stagnant and frozen if we all just kind of accepted each machine in its native form and used it solely in the fashion that its manufacturers intented.
We shouldn’t have to pick the lock to the house we bought in order to move our own shit in or to simply rearrange the furniture.
ReplyIt will all come via software updates. I’m just saying I’d never mess with my phone till Steven P. says it’s ok to.
ReplyWell I’m sure screwing around with it voids the warranty. If you don’t care about that, screw away.
This does remind me a bit of people who did crap like got Linux running on an X-box though. Great. So what?
ReplyWhy aren’t you still using the default WordPress theme? Why are you using plugins?
Maybe because you wanted to make it yours and make it do stuff that we didn’t think of. Hacking changes you from a submissive consumer into an invested user.
ReplyAll sanctioned.
ReplyYa, this device is locked up like fort knox. I dont have the time or energy to jump through the hoops required to hack it. I do however hate att and would be glad to switch if it was easy and i could still use data.
ReplyYeh, silly kids…Don’t the know that hacking AT&T telephone devices so went out of style in the mid 70’s?

ReplyI just added a ringtone, that’s it. Am I going to hell?
ReplyHave to disagree with ya Feldman. As being in the wireless industry for most of my life I love to see people unlock these phones. Fuck these carriers that lock these phones to there networks. Hack away baby……..Apple iPhone welcome to T-Mobile.
leigh
ReplyTMobile is ass. Sprint would be nice though.
Either way I don’t care enough to hack a phone to use it. I don’t understand this idea of hacking a phone so you can pay someone else to make the calls. Seems like they’re stopping a bit short of the goals we used to have in the old days.
ReplySo you’ve bought into the idea that a company can and should be able to control your usage of a device after you’ve bought it, even though you’ve entered into no such contract?
What if Apple decided to block your videocast from being played on their iDevices? “Oh well, no longer sanctioned.” C’mon.
