I’m not the least bit interested in what this guy has to say. I have seen up close and personal the effects of the ship-it-fast mentality and I have no respect for anyone who thinks it is an ethical way to do business. Glorifying shoddy work is nothing to be proud of.

As for the Jew thing, the Jews I’ve known have been suspiciously like normal people. To be fair to this bonehead though, lots of Jews ARE canny businessmen. I don’t think making a statement like that has to be anti-Semitic, but I didn’t hear it in context so I can’t say.

Now if he was saying that shipping shoddy products is OK and he learned to think that way from Jews, THAT I would certainly find offensive. And I’m not Jewish.

Loren, just to tell you what I was thinking… was that to me religion meant Judaism. Where someone could be Jewish but not always adhere to the Jewish faith (Judaism). So I thought Jewish refered to the race, Judaism to the religion. Hence Guy mentioning Jews didn’t mean he was talking about religion, which you did in your post. Anyway, that’s what I thought. I think, generally speaking, people are a little too sensitive about their ethnic and religious groups being talked about. I don’t view that as a good trend at all.

That said, if anybody has good reason to be concerned about it, it’s Jews. I think Guy probably didn’t mean anything by the comment, but what people don’t realize is that the stereotype of Jews being clever and “good with money” feeds into the BS that Jews somehow control the banking industry (a recurring theme in some circles even here), which was used by the Nazis to justify slaughtering them. They were seen as an existential threat to the Reich. The same rhetoric exists today in the Arab press; google MEMRI and you will see for yourself.

The threat is real, and people should be careful not to feed into it.
