Two packs of Camel straights and a bottle of Jack Daniels might make my voice sound gargly like that, but reproducing the passion could be more problematic.
The value of comments depends on the field I suppose. For some of the blogs I read, the level of information and debate in the comment sections far outweighs the original post content.
That’s a handful of sites though, on the whole you’re probably right, most people view them as statistics, indicators of esteem. Same applies to the number of friends, followers or subscribers you have on Twitter, Myspace or YouTube etc.
Do they really matter? Well try turning your comments off. In fact not only your comments, what if you switched of all analytical tools, stopped reading what others say about you, switched off any visible vanity connection between your blog and the rest of the Internet…it would be like blogging in a cave.
and soon Digg will be selling their comments that is why they upgraded their system.. real comments in real time.. comments are a big part of the Amazon system..Survey say’s??
I disagree with you, probably one of the worst posts you’ve ever made (and that’s no easy feat…). No link for you. But I do have for you some shit I know you don’t care about because you’ve told us a ton of time that you really don’t care about any of this or what any of us think…. (yet, here you are… reading my useless comment… you schmo. lol):
A.) It’s pronounced “discuss” (as in, to talk about stuff) not “discus” (as in, to throw a heavy disc) … duh. That takes a little less than 1/3 of a functioning brain to figure out there, genius.
B.) Fred Wilson is an investor, not the “owner”… kinda different, kinda not… but different for the sake of you being wrong. lol.
C.) “You” don’t keep comments on “your site”… it’s all about where “the reader” (yeah, THE, not YOUR) chooses to leave his/her comment… example: I left this gem here, for you… as opposed to one of the many other places I go to leave complimenting comments about all the fine work you do a most of the other times (not all the time, you are able to whip out some smelly cock from time to time, not unlike the swill i just watched, but most of the time it’s top notch hilarity whether you care what I think or not.)
P.S. you’re still the man. kvetching much today, even for you? yes. still the man? you bet your grouchy ass.
Dude right on! You should have ranted a bit about how sites are all going to the stupid blog and comment style. When in most cases a forum type site would be much better format. Its all about the look at me I am on the Interweb and fuck you all, if you ask me.
The more obvious it is that my name links to a website the more I want to comment. It’s my grand marketing plan for the site. Spend all day just looking for places to drop my link load.

Comments are a measurable way for people to see “Hey, someone’s reading!”
That’s all they are.

I’m not sure it would be worth doing anymore.

Ah, an attempt to generate a lot of comments…. proved false. And if I’m wrong: turn off your comments.

I suppose traffic is more important than comments. Commentary seems to have decreased lately at my site.

From this seat, comments are just something to do until Yue posts another video.
