Office Work more…

Office Work more… I think that the Facebook.mov can be one of the most important films ever put to film, or an SD card at least. It has the chance to do something that all great art does. Change the way you look at something. The cosmos are all in alignment for this movie, and if done correctly it can change things in a big way. If it isn’t done right, WTF @aplusk can star in the sequel. This humble author is often accused of demonstrating a less than positive attitude when it comes to our culture. Well get ready, because it seems the crew who made this movie make me look like @GaryVee. more… As a teenager, I was enthralled by Ayn Rand. Her positive depiction of the creative entrepreneur has been the life-force behind my personal actions and my life-dreams. I remember completely empathizing with the plight of Hank Rearden who, after creating a new metal alloy, decided to keep it private instead of publicizing it for the world to copy for free. I remember being disgusted by how people had the gall to tell Hank what to do with his creation. Being shocked by how someone can devise a new process and have someone else attempt to rip it away for the so-called “public good”. more… I like Gabe Rivera, always have. He’s weird as shit and has an awesome dry sense of humor. I woke up to Gabe doing his best to look normal in the picture in The NY Times which wrote an article about him and his site Techmeme. I felt happy for him. Why? Because the NY Times matters. It matters more than any blog, and all the blogs know it. I mean lets face it would you rather be in the NY Times or Techcrunch? For such a webcentric world why is this the case? I’ll tell you why, because Newspapers matter. Newspapers are real, they matter, and they always will. Blogs don’t matter. I’ve met or know every top blogger in the world. I’ve been on every top tech blog possible. Umm great. BFD. Why? Because while it’s flattering it means nothing. In terms of spreading an idea, I’d much rather be in the newspaper or on TV than the web. There are no bots, Chatroulette, or articles about which phone someone is using. I mean if you care what phone Louis Gray is using you should to quote Jason Calacanis “Kill yourself”. The history of the NY Times matters, there is no history on the web. The striving for excellence and integrity, two words that mean nothing on the web. Gawker, Techcrunch etc. these sites mean nothing to culture. They are car accidents we slow down to see for a minute as we search for new porn. This is the reason every blogger wets their panties every time they are mentioned in a newspaper, they know the truth. Despite all these tech fools rooting for their demise, they still cut the clipping out and send it to mom. Try telling your Mom you were on techcrunch. I already know the answer. “What’s techcrunch”. Now try it with the NY Times. I rest my case. Congrats Gabe.
Jeff Pulver v. Most of Israel – This is a good one. (Link) Calacanis v. Arrington – See their twitter streams. Calacanis v. Laporte – He asked permission for the 100th time. He asked permission. Julia Allison v. RBNS – A classic. There are many more out there, but to me these are the most entertaining at the moment. If only we could learn to love our fellow netizens the web would be so much better. Unfortunately it’s so much more fun and interesting to fight over who’s the biggest dope. |
