I’m not convinced that this is about Scoble wanting a job at Facebook. I think it’s about two things:

1) Scoble believes that rules don’t apply to him.

2) Whatever new business venture he’s starting is going to require him spamming as many people as possible, hence the need to get all that information out of FB and into spamhaus Plaxo.

My only question would be that ego aside (we know his ego is massive), would Scoble really be dumb enough to think that Facebook would ever, EVER be interested in hiring him for anything? His ineffectiveness as an evangelizer aside, he’s simply too old to be a viable promoting tool for Facebook. No one my age gives a flying shit about Robert Scoble - I guarantee you the kids ten years younger than me don’t care either. I don’t care how many people signed-up because of him - if they had to learn about Facebook from Robert Scoble, they were like the last people to know anyway.

From what I’ve seen of the Facebook staff, they are right up there with Scoble in the ego department. They think their shit doesn’t stink and that any day now they’ll be as rich and powerful as the Google guys.

I’ve even heard that some FB guys are dumping their girlfriends because now that they work at FB they need to be dating the “right” kind of girl — young, vapid, and with big boobs, presumably. Julia Allison would fit right in with them.
