It really is all about the money. I stand next to you with my head bowed in shame and hat in hand. I would have played the game for peanuts just to have the chance to step on the field. I actually had the opportunity to do it, and decided my education was more important. Sounds now like I may have made the right choice. This is a sad state for America’s pastime and I can assure you the likes of Gehrig and the true heroes of baseball have been shamed as well.
ReplyAs someone who happily spent way too much time, money and emotions on the game of baseball since age 7, yesterday’s confirmation of what we had all suspected has helped me to clarify how I should feel about this group of cheaters, liars and criminals.
I will be conducting a season long (at least) boycott of the sport next year and I hope my fellow fans do the same. We should all hit them where it really counts.

ReplyI agree with the spirit of what you’re saying here, but what also bothers me here is that this is simply just a report, not an indictment or criminal ruling. Nobody in this report has been convicted of anything, and yet their lives and reputations are done.
Is this their own fault? Of course it is. But thanks to this report, and the court of public opinion, we now find ourselves in another situation of guilty until proven innocent.
I find the implications of that much more troubling.
