  2. Interesting. I’m surprised there are no comments on this post. I wonder if the reality of what actually did happen is too much for people to deal with? Or is it mistrust of the source of information from the interviewee? In any case this provided some well-needed insight into what went on behind the scenes for those stranded people we heard about through the mainstream media.

  3. Andrew,
The real reason is that nobody cares.

  4. I could only listen to the first third of this. But you want comments? OK.

Much was said about the murders in the media at the time, but of course when the smoke cleared, there were no bodies found with bulletholes in them. Maybe they ate them too?

I don’t mean to be insensitive, as a lot of suffering went on down there, but c’mon. This guy’s body language doesn’t convey a lot of credibility either. He looks like a kid explaining how his dog ate his homework.

This thing caught everyone off guard, period. There was no conspiracy to let people down there suffer. I honestly believe that everything was done that could be done after the fact — it was just too late, the damage was done.

  5. The honest stories where people show their faces are just as compelling, perhaps it isn’t that people do not care, but rather you have presented an unbelievable story which aims to further your career and not help the citizens of New Orleans

  6. I wouldn’t go that far. While I don’t believe this guy, I’ve heard what he is saying out of other people. It’s a common viewpoint, whether or not it’s valid. I though the disclaimer on the video — saying you have to decide for yourself whether to believe it — was good enough.

I will say though, just my personal feelings about this, that I’m pretty disgusted with the finger pointing that went on after Katrina. I contributed quite a bit of money (and raised even more) for the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, only to hear how nobody cared about black people. Well, I’m about as white as you get, and I sent a pile of cash down there; what’s anyone in New Orleans done for me? It’s a slap in the face to have to listen to that, for all the people who actually did something to help. It’s not just money, either. I talked to a guy a week or so afterwards that was going down there to help put power lines back up. I got the impression he wasn’t being paid to do it, it just needed to be done.

Then again, I just live here.
