Amanda Tries To Sell Bulletproof Vests.

March 20, 2007 – 1:19 pm

This is stupid on so many levels. Everyone knows pros go for the head shot.

  2. Amen on Amanda Congdon and bulletproof vests–you said it.

Here these idiots try to sexualize Kevlar bulletproof vests–and use someone who despite her good looks and shiny headlamps–has all the sex appeal of a wet bed.

Besides, only survivalists and cops get a hard-on over bulletproof vests.

  3. Nice to see you back on form.
I know its tacky to ask tech quetions but hay, do you know if the podtech player will ever inbed in google reader feeds?

  4. Thanks Ireland, yeah I think it will, I know they are always improving on it and care very much about the users experience. I’ll ask about it.

  5. That video did suck. But bulletproof vests are cool, just not that cool.

By Todd on Mar 20, 2007

  6. Thats the point, they managed to take a cool and important product and suck all the coolness right out of it.

  7. Amanda Congdon…bland by name, bland by nature.

  8. Did it occur to you that this might be marketed to school aged kids? I mean just look at the interface surrounding the video, the title “Science Stories”, and the heroic officers with yards upon yard of medals pinned to their chests. It’s very Bill Nye the Science Guy — which is marketed to….

    kids.

  9. I think Mark may have a point. It makes more sense in that context, but it’s still lame.

Bulletproof vests are an important product, and I didn’t mean to minimize how important they are to cops or others.

But I thought the Obama bit, with the remark about a head shot was a little too reminiscent of what actually did happen in the 60’s.

    I remember that stuff.

  10. Mark,

You are wrong. This is a lame attempt at retro-cool. Nothing to do with kids, it’s a branding piece directed at the general market.

  11. Thats why I said it, “those who do not remember history are condemned to repeat it.” I promise you this was not made for kids. The fact that we are not even sure proves how bad it is. And yes Barack is in danger every day.

By Loren Feldman on Mar 20, 2007

  12. “The fact that we are not even sure proves how bad it is.”

    True.

Yes, brother, unfortunately, you’re right about Barack.

I think Barack will make a great president one day, but I don’t think he can win this round.

I’ll say a prayer for him.

  13. I agree it’s lame, and upon visiting the stories.dupont.com I’ll concede that it’s not marketed directly at kids. It is, however, a corporate education piece.

I’ve worked in corporate education (e-learning) for a good long while now, and I see that this is typical of any type learning module that a major corporation would put out — simple to understand, friendly, “fun” and non-threatening.

Unfortunately, most marketing / training projects similar to this confuse what would be a great opportunity in relevant marketing that is useful and usable — to let’s make it “childlike”.

Placing Obama (or any candidate) in there, while making the piece more believable and relevant would also make it too real (and thus threatening) for the general public to want to digest. Not a good move for Dupont at all.

This, while lame, gets the message across and portrays DuPont in a trustful, non-threatening way.

Kinda like the Beav and the Brady’s– for those of us old enough to remember those days.

  14. Mark,

I agree with these points, btw I was kidding about Barack, sort of.

By Loren Feldman on Mar 20, 2007

  15. I know, Loren. I’m old enough to “understand the show” as they say.

By Mark on Mar 20, 2007

  16. Sorry, there have been a lot of weirdos around here, my apologies.

By Loren Feldman on Mar 20, 2007

  17. I was going to say, even before Mark came along, that June Cleaver was more authoritative than Amanda Congdon.

By Vince Williams on Mar 20, 2007

  18. Don’t forget - there is a HBO series coming.

By Allen Stern on Mar 21, 2007

  19. And that will be awful as well.
